Step 2: Prepare Your Documents
Your supporting documents should demonstrate your identity, travel plans, accommodation, financial situation and other relevant circumstances.
The exact requirements can vary depending on your purpose of travel and individual situation.
Step 3: Complete the Visa Application
For Schengen applications in India, the German Missions instruct applicants to complete the application using the VIDEX online application system, print the completed form and submit the required declarations and supporting documents.
Step 4: Book Your Appointment
Applicants submit their application through the applicable visa application process. German Missions in India use VFS Visa Application Centres for Schengen visa submissions.
Step 5: Submit Your Application & Biometrics
At the appointment, you may need to submit your documents and provide biometric information according to the applicable requirements.
Step 6: Visa Processing
The German Missions state that Schengen applications are generally processed within 15 working days from arrival at the visa section, although additional time can be required for logistics, public holidays or individual cases.
Applicants are advised to apply well in advance. Applications can generally be submitted up to six months before the intended travel date and should not be submitted later than the applicable minimum period before travel.

Travel Medical Insurance
Travel medical insurance is required for the Schengen trip and must cover the entire duration of the journey. The German Missions’ tourism checklist specifies minimum medical coverage of €30,000 and coverage valid throughout the Schengen area.
